The emblem of the Mexican state of Jalisco is a circular shield divided into three parts. The upper section features an image of the Arcos de Guadalajara (Guadalajara Arches), which is a historical landmark located in the capital city of Jalisco. The left and right lower sections depict a blue sky and green mountains, respectively. In the center of the shield is a golden eagle, with wings spread and holding a serpent in its talons. This eagle symbolizes the ancient Aztec legend of how the Aztecs found their new home on the site where they saw this eagle perched on a cactus, eating a snake. The emblem is surrounded by a red border with the name of the state inscribed in white letters. The emblem represents the cultural, historical, and natural richness of the state of Jalisco.
